Don’t Look Back!

I enjoy where I am.

I look forward to the things of the future.

Releasing suppressed emotional discomfort.

I am content with where I am.

I feel stable.

Lighter. free.

I have confidence in what’s to come.

I deserve all that’s for my good.

Though I know what was, it’s no longer my is.

I enjoy where I am.

The past is filled with learned lessons.

Last weekend, I had to handle some business matters and attend a memorial service for a friend of my family’s son. I was confident my errands wouldn’t take too long, so I could get back in time to get dressed. To make sure, I prepared myself by getting up extra early and decided to hold off on my shower until I returned home.

No worries, I stayed in my car for the most part. 😃

I made it to my destination fine; I managed every thing quite well! Eventually, I was ready to head back home to get dressed and mentally prepare for the service. I got in my vehicle and continued on my path. As I merged onto the highway, I felt elated at the fact the roads were clear. It wouldn’t take no more than fifteen minutes for me to get home.

After two miles of highway, I noticed my exit up ahead on the right. I took the ramp exit and thought about how I used to drive this pathway in high school to get to my parent’s old house. If I continued on the highway, proceeding to a new route, I would get to the new house in average timing. On the other hand, I felt if I took the old route I would dodge some downtown traffic! There would be an exit to the old route half a mile on my right. Though the route I needed to go on was clear, I decided to take the exit to the old freeway.

As soon as I got on the old route, I regretted my decision. The highway was filled with potholes and my car hit every one. Oh, I forgot to mention, construction! Not only was I trying to swerve away from the highway craters I had to drive like a turtle for three miles. I thought to myself, if only I listened to my first mind. Then, I was reminded of the following verse:

See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

Isaiah 43:19 NIV

Out with the old, in with the new!

Isn’t it interesting the way we will avoid the new by going back to the familiar? The visions we see up ahead are so clear, yet we feel sure doing what we know will produce a better option. Only to discover our comfort slows down the pathway to where we are heading.

I believe God wants to do something new in our lives. The new opportunities that are coming our way aren’t by chance. What if God is testing our willingness to try something new, before blessing us with more and everything we desire? What if going against our normal routine brings us the blessings?

There is blessing in obedience.

Let’s not think it’s strange when things are shifting for our good.

God rewards those who diligently seek Him.

We need to trust that everything He is putting our way isn’t a coincidence.
