Mirrors : It’s Up To Us To Accept Who We Really Are!

Every day I have to face you.

And, it bothers me that I can’t hide who I really am!

The road of my journey is paved within your eyes.

Words I’ve said, you’ve heard in your ears.

Even the bad thoughts about you, you know.

There’s no pretending.

You force me into truth!

Every time.

For I am you.

You are me.

Mirror, Breonna Gildon

There’s one person we have to love first: us.

When we think of the phrase ‘being in love’, what’s the first thought that usually comes to our minds? Maybe it’s an image of a person, a fairytale story, a Hallmark movie, or even an animal!

How often do we ever consider being in love with ourselves?

Let’s be honest, when we were first introduced to love, it’s rare to find someone who learned to love themselves early on! Self-love is something that’s often taught at a later phase in our lives.

Many of us find ourselves in the same versions of unhealthy relationships wondering, “Why am I finding new people, but I end up arriving at this same departure?”

Truth bomb loading in 3…2…1…

If we fail to learn how to be in love with ourselves first, we will never comprehend being in love with others!

Not the us we are around our family or our followers on social media. The raw unfiltered version of us. The side of us no one ever sees or knows, our inner beauty. If we want to learn how to be in love, the first place we have to go is to the mirror!

When did I start?

The way I once viewed myself was like constantly looking in a foggy mirror. I could acknowledge that I was a person. It was just so hard to accept the real version myself behind the steam.

At that time, the steam was anything I tried to be that I felt made myself better to others. I had so many personas to the point I had no idea who I really was!

My view was distorted.

Whenever I looked in the mirror, I only saw what I believed would make others approve of me. It didn’t matter who I hurt, including myself, along the process. In my mind, approval equaled to love!

Every day, I woke up I would forced myself to believe the steam was better than loving the transparent version of me. As long as the steam made others happy, I was content with a fogged image rather than a clear mirror.

After a while, steam eventually has to clear. Let’s just say when it finally disappeared and I was forced to see who I really was like a mirror I cracked!

We have to be okay with who we really are.

Every one of us reading this post has something in common: we all have one true identity!

In Jeremiah 1:5 it states,

I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.

We are all called to a great purpose in the time we have on earth because we were each uniquely designed by God. There’s only one true version of ourselves.

It’s time for us to get a towel out the linen closet, wipe the foggy mirror, and accept who we see!

Most importantly, it’s time to start loving on that person more!

Love Nuggets!

If we want to love someone, we need to be the first person on our list!

We all will have to face our true selves.

It’s up to us to accept who we really are.

Jeremiah 1:5

Jeremiah 29:11

Loving ourselves teaches us how to love others.
