Did that title pinch a nerve?
I understand completely.
The journey of self-love hasn’t always been kisses and giggles for me either.
I must say I’m glad you’re here!
The goal is by the time you finish reading this post you will be empowered.
Oh, you didn’t know?
You are currently reading a blog post that’s a part of a series titled Mirrors. Mirrors is a series of blog posts sharing the topic of self-love!
If you haven’t read last’s week’s blog post, ‘Mirrors’, I highly recommend you read it before continuing to view this post.
When you have read Mirrors, you will be fully ready for all the juicy Nuggets in this post.
Now, let’s continue into Mirrors Part II…
Self-love is being aware of what we have to give.
Now, there’s this stigma in our society that if we love ourselves too much we are being selfish. In most cases, many of us do not practice self-love due to choosing the needs of others over ourselves.
Let me be the first to tell you: it’s necessary for us to learn to love ourselves, fully. It’s the only way we are able to express love genuinely to others. It’s so important even Jesus Himself said it!
In Matthew, Jesus said, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart all your soul and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
So, if we haven’t taken the time to love ourselves, it’s going to be pretty hard to express love to anyone else, right?
There should be no limit on how we choose to love ourselves. Self-love helps us to discover our own personal gifts, values, and share our knowledge to bless someone else!
The journey in loving ourselves isn’t an act of selfishness. Self-love makes us become aware of how much we are able to give from ourselves. We must discover who we are.
Then, we will be ready to love others.
Self- love requires for us to take action!
The word love itself is an action word. Just how we make the effort for others we should use the same energy, if not more into loving on ourselves!
I’m pretty confident after reading that last sentence you may of thought, “When am I going to find the time to do something for myself?”
I hear it all the time from ladies and guys around me when I tell them about me taking myself on monthly dates. “Oh, that sounds like a good idea!” They will shyly say without never once attempting to set time away for their own personal affections.
Interestingly, when we think of sharing love to someone, we typically think of us exerting energy in efforts to show those who we love how much we care for them. We strive, may even overextend to show our love’s value with no thought of ourselves.
Sadly, I use to have the same thought for myself!
The thing that changed for me was I took action and so can you! Let me show you ways how we can love on us:
• Spend Time In God’s Presence
I realized in order to love myself I needed to go to the One who knew me first!
My first step into self-love was developing an intentional relationship with God.
Praying and reading the Bible regularly strengthen my self-love. By reading His promises, I grew a confidence within myself.
• Date Ourselves
As I mentioned, once a month I go out by myself. I make sure to shower good, wear a nice fragrance, pick out a poppin’ outfit, and go out in the city alone. I don’t rush the time. I even silence my phone!
I just enjoy the time with me.
• Discover Who Were Are
Just like in any relationship, we are constantly growing into different versions of ourselves.
Look at this as a self-check up! At least two times out of a week, I choose to write out things that I love about myself or goals I plan to accomplish.
When we began to write out our thoughts, we create a habit in knowing who we are and where we are heading!
We have to be confident in who we are!
