Lately I’ve been feeling butt ugly.
I’ve been struggling to love myself.
Struggling to find beauty within.
Nothing about me was good and I was internally beating myself up.
I had dug myself a pit and I sat in it.
I was so mad at myself for looking like this, acting like that, or even feeling the way.
So, I decided to share this with my friends.
Not to get sympathy or have people tell me things to make me feel good, but to be transparent.
Transparent is defined as, allowing light to pass through so that objects behind can be distinctly seen.
But what does that look like in friendship?
It looks like accountability.
And, it looks like honesty for you and your friends.
I knew that my friends had my best interest at heart.
They check me when I am wrong, give me advice on what I should do in sticky situations.
This was something different.
At first, I was scared to tell them what was going on with me.
That I would stand in the mirror on occasion and give myself a verbal lashing.
When I stood in that mirror, I could find nothing beautiful about myself.
Yes, I would get cute everyday and beat my face to the tee, but it was a costume for me.
A facade of some sort!
Because when I got behind closed doors, took it all off I truly felt ugly.
So, I buckled down and decided to get honest with my inner circle.
I told them my struggle and I instantly felt free!
They were in shock, but they instantly started speaking life, love and beauty over me.
The transparency I had ended up being the the thing that freed me.
Revelation 12:11 (KJV) it reads: "And they
overcame him by the blood of the lamb,
and by the word of their testimony; and they
loved not their lives unto the death."
That means that we are freed by us sharing our struggles.
When I decided to be open and share my struggles, my friends reciprocated that.
We were open and decided to hold each other accountable and speak life into the dark places.
With that being said I’d like to challenge you to complete the transparency challenge (#transparency).
Grab your inner circle and share the things that you have been struggling with, be transparent.
Then go the extra mile, ask them to write words of encouragement down for you and place them in a small box.
When you feel low, or start beating yourself up, pull out one of those cards and read it.
Let it uplift and encourage you to think positive about yourself and be freed!
